Conceptual Logo Design

I have taken 2 completely different approaches to my conceptual wordmark logos. I initially started by curating a list of my interests and experiences and then looked at my forename and surname individually and together, and then also my initials.

My interest in astrology, physics and space led me to create the first wordmark which depicts a planet in place of the ‘e’. I have modelled the planet after Saturn or a planet with rings. The lowercase ‘e’ crossbar from the Gill Sans typeface was initially horizontal, but using an angular crossbar enforces the clear imagery of a planet. Another idea I have tried to implement into the first conceptual wordmark is a subtle telescope within the planet hence why the crossbar and planetary rings are wider on one side, it works as a telescope looking up towards the night sky. The colours used for this logo were inspired from the colours of the outer atmosphere and the transition to space from a lighter blue to a dark navy blue, which is also a favourite colour of mine.

My second conceptual wordmark took an extremely different approach which was born from my interest in fashion, sneakers and footwear. The logomark is created from a single monoline stroke creating my initials ‘CW’. The monoline stroke works well as creating a shoelace and I added the aglets at either end of the lace to make sure that it was recognisable. I initially created the bottom version, with the lace finishing on the tail of ‘w’. I then later went on to create the upper version where the lace goes around to create a circle around the logo, which was my attempt to enforce my space and planetary interest from my first approach. The colour choice I chose for this secondary logo are based on my love for the colour orange which is also the colour scheme I choose in a lot of the clothes and footwear the I wear, which helps further enforce the personal element and helps to identify myself.
